washers on the drive coupling?

    sorry, I feel like im constantly asking newbie questions...

    but here's another:

    Have heard of people putting washers on the drive coupling on their superjets to reduce play.

    how necessary is it?
    Are there any other little things like that i should do to prepare it for surf riding?

    It doesnt really reduce play, it just puts the couplers closer together so the get more bite on the coupler rubber. Washers are 1" x 2"
