Hi new here. I can ride around on a stand up alright but still lots to learn and I certainly can't do anothing fancy. Just wondering if any one knew any history on this fx1 and if it would be a good buy for someone that can ride but are still pritty inexperienced
    cheers :)

Personally I like them. They are quite a rare ski, only made for two years, and IMO the design was really ahead of its time. The goal that Yamaha had was to target the surf/freeride market and kind of compete with the kawi 550; it was also a good ski for slalom. They are narrower and shorter than the Superjet with the pole closer to the nose, which some people think makes them harder to ride, but it also makes them more manuverable. If you look at alot of the new after market hulls, its not suprising that they have alot of those features.

The major downside of them is that they have a 122mm pump versus the 144mm SJ pump. Its quite common to do major fibre glass surgery on them to swap in a SJ pump, which pretty much solves this problem. Steve at OtagoPWC has one he's done up, and he swears by it.

All that said, the best all around ski for NZ surf riding is a superjet, upgrade it as you get better, and when its worn out swap everything over to a new hull.

Thanks for all the info :) I have had a couple of people tell me I would be better off to find a square nose in my price range so um starting to think I'll head down that track. Here's a link to the fx1 I was thiking of anyway, I was meaning to put it in the original posthttps://touch.trademe.co.nz/motors/listing/view/823813393

I ride an fx1 and I love/hate it, they are fuckin sick and fun as hell but also a total battle.
they corner like they are on rails if you dig them in but at the same time the arse slides round real easy (if you kneel in the tray you can actually get it fully drifting in circles with the arse out which is fun as hell)
Mines had the 144 pump done and it fuckin hauls arse, only a 701 single carb with stock pipe.
as a surf ski i wouldnt really recomend it unless you wanna put tubbies on as they are quite tippy when your not on the gas or hit a wave sideways.
