    Hi all,
Im a new member and i joined this forum to try and get a bit of information about freestyle jetskiing.
I have been interested in stand up jetskis for a while now however i have yet to own one.
Im looking at getting something that will get me up and running in the sport, however i am a student so my budget is pretty tight.
If anyone can give me any tips on getting into the sport or buying my first ski it would be greatly appreciated!!
    Cheers!!

    Hi Steven,
Most people ride yamaha superjets. Some are on after market hulls but they cost allot. Stick to a yamaha there pretty reliable and parts are cheep and avalible.

Welcome! Id go for a superjet. I started on an FX1 this time last year, and while i love it to bits, it took me ages to get the hang of it, and im still no pro on it. Superjets are way more forgiving and stable.

Agree with nick, but if your on a budget your pretty much fucked as jetskiing (anything decent) =$$$.
I ride an fx1 at the moment and while it is a fun ski its fucking horrible to try get the hang of, depending on your budget and if your just starting out id look for a cheap kawi 650sx, they are fun to do a first season on and will let you know if the sports your cup of tea without breaking the bank

    Ive just started too

I'm on a 650sx I got for cheap just this winter. Took to it a lot sooner than I had thought. I started off on the flat, zipping around buoys and getting used to the whole balance thing (or lack of). Now I am starting to push it due to boredom, and have starting wave jumping. Given that its a 1989 sx nearly 25 years old, I am restricted in what I can do but man is it fun!!

    Check it out http://youtu.be/JtSgpIvewwM

I am glad I started with it but am really wanting to upgrade to a super jet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to some up, Kawasaki's sx are better for racing and tend to be somewhat cheaper. Super jet's more for free style but cost abit more.

yeah i think i am most likely going to get a 650sx unless i can find a early model superjet within my price range.
And i figure summer is not the best time of year to be looking for deals on jetskis. :?

Welcome to dalusion, people here will ignore you till they know you then they will call you names and accuse you of being a key board cow boy behind your back. My advice is start with a Yamaha superjet 96 to 2007 are the best years for free ride ,learn to ride it like just have fun on some flat water with some fast looking hood numbers and earn your wheels then get a bank loan and buy a dasa 850cc and a aftermarket composite free ride hull and enjoy the countless problems of making them fit together, deafening silence of mechanical breakdowns and constant whining of jealous 701 owners. If you wanna learn to do a flip I can get you doing it in no time with a fail proof method that worked on dick Webb.

I agree with what Sickboi has to say haha :) But I hope to believe we can can minimize some of the problems we face on this site. Welcome dude.

    Your options for the super jet (or SJ for short);

1: 1990-1995. These from memory have a 650cc single carb engine, these early models are what we call Square Nose. Ive never ridden one so cant say much about them.

2: 1994-1995. Same ski as above but with a 701cc single carb engine. Again never ridden one.

3: 1996-2007. New designed ski. Same displacment engine (701cc) but with twin carbs. These are refered to a Round Nose (RN) ski. Id say this is what most people on here ride and there a great ski.

4:2008-2014. An updated version of the above RN. Same engine but the hull is quite diffrent. I wont go into details but it feels completely diffrent to ride. Everyone has there own opions but after getting used to the 96-07 model I dout ill ever want to change to one of these.

In my experance if you buy cheap, youll end up spending more time on the beach trying to fix problems than riding.. or end up spending a lot of your hard earnt cash.
There is so much info and knoledge with the people on this site for Yamahas that it makes sence to go down that road.
FYI: I have little experiance with anyother brand ski

    Welcome.

Like both Steve , sicboi and most others on here have said superjet is the way to go but if your on a really tight budget a 650sx will do the job just fine to start.
If you don't know much about motors get your local shop or friend that does to check it out before you buy.
Just get one go riding and enjoy...flat, surf or freeriding is all fun on these hot summer days.
