i just wondering if i should be running a higher octane im using 91 at a 50:1 mix but im wanting to try some 98 would it be safe to use
re hey man yeah 98 would be fine!me an all the dalusion boys an prob most of the guys on this site would use at the very least 96!
Nah man you dont have to rejet. Use the highest octane you have available. All its going to do is stop detonation and for the few extra bucks its well worth the security. I use av gas on my ski and its stock. I get it cheaper than 91 and its pretty easy to get.
I use a 50/50 mix of Avgas and 98 octane at 40:1 with synthetic oil. I agree with rick, use the best fuel you can get and if you are running anything higher than standard compression you should definitely be using at least 96 or 98.
[quote="Rick XP" I get it cheaper than 91 and its pretty easy to get.[/quote] How do you get it so cheap rick?
it may sound a bit crisper but you wont notice anything. Its just a security measure for your engine. I got this guys mobile number who is the fuel guy out at ardmore airport. He is there 7 days a week and there most of the day from 7am. He does av gas for $1.80 a litre. This is good quality stuff if its fit for a plane. No water in it, etc. The stuff at the gas stations is stuff that is no good for planes. Just rock up there with what ever container you have. Obviously bigger the better.
octane issues Bugger, just wrote a long article on this and took to long so it dissapeared... I THINK high octane fuel is slower if you dont advance the ign, ie from std... 91 fuel has higher calorific value due to less additives for anti knock. this means a bigger bang... Use 96 or av. if you have higher comp or advanced ign. I will ring my mate from shell on thurs to get more info... STAY TUNED,Grant.
