    Hi guys,

I have just recently stripped down my blaster engine as it only had 98psi in both cylinders, so i have just replaced the piston rings & have sourced all new gaskets. I am having trouble trying to get the pistons back into the cylinder bores due to the piston rings getting in the way at the start of the bore. If anyone could give me some info on what you may have used in the past to close in the rings far enough so they can clear the beginning of the cylinder bores that would be great!! and much appreciated!!!

    Many thanks :)

you generally drop the cylinders down onto the pistons (which are attached to the crank)....and just close the rings with your fingers. Can be made easier with 2 people, one to hold the cylinders while other does the rings.

Are you sure you got the correct size / oversized rings for the bore you have???

Thanks mate. Yea i have checked the top of the piston crown for any markings stating an oversized piston & appears to be standard size. I will give it a go today.

    Cheers :)

    blaster

have you set the gap on the rings as if right they shuold go in easy use sme assembly lube or two stroke oil but is easier with two pairs of hands

if it does'nt fit , use a bigger hammer..... line it all up & hit it as hard as you can....it will go in..

only kidding... put the rings in the bores & make sure they fit before you put them on the pistons... just to make sure they r right size.

This is true... in this case, Im used to cars.... Forgot about the cylinders sliding over the pistons.

    Like raging gay?

might be obvious but make sure the ends of rings are located with the indent on the piston
extra fingers helps i use Taynes when i think i might nip mine

    Hey guys,

Yea i had a go today with putting the pistons back into the bores with the engine in place and it was an absolute bitch of a job with trying to locate the rings in far enough so the rings would clear the beginning of the bores. Next time i think i will definitly remove the engine (for more room to work and ease to see things) All i did when i put the new rings back in place was located the ends of the rings to the (gudgen pin side of the piston crown) as i wanted to avoid the thrusting side of the piston. Is this correct? I know on car engines this is the way they are located, but i see T-Bear mentioned an indentation they should be aligned with on the piston itself?

from memory the ring groves should have a little pin and thats where the ring ends are suposed to be located. This is so the ring gaps are located at points where they can slide up and down the cyl with out getting caught on the ports

yo dude you definitly have to line the ring up with the locating lug on the piston you also have to make sure the ring is up the right way
when tayne gets to work i will get him to put up a pic and all will become clear
