Give jamesfreestyle a pm he is the only one on here who has an sxr (i think) They are alot different to ride compared to a SJ they are alot more stable and they seem hard to throw around. they do corner really well though they dont slid out in corners like SJ do.

The Kwackas are quite alot heavier (about 30kg?) than the Yamaha's and dont have the manoeverability that the Yamaha's have either.
The hull is longer, wider and more stable, excellent for racing but not the the best frestyle boats around. There are a few pro's that freestyle them but not many, they are mostly yamaha riders.

I have riden heaps of them and they are fun to ride but I still prefer the yamaha. Thats just me though.

The cost to build them into a freestyle boat is bascially the same as Superjet so its much of a muchness.

Maybe you could buy one, build it up and let us know what they are like first hand?

There is also james that lived in canada who is now back living in bucklands beach, he was having an sxr built up by watcon in the states, it was meant to be around 150HP apparently. Im not to sure weather he has the ski in NZ yet .......

I reckon they look cooler then the SJ and I like the 800 motor. I dont know why yamaha is still making 701s. The thing that turns me off tho is that useless Kawasaki pole! you just cant do anything with it except throw it away and do an expensive SJ pole conversion. if it was'nt for that tho i might own one?

Iv heard a little rumour that Yamaha have got a ski coming out next year that is going to run rings around the SXR.
Its all whispers at the moment and the details are a bit sketchy but from what im told it could be as big as 1000cc in a four stroke or 900cc in a 2 banger!

Kawasaki are supposed have a V4 1000cc Four Stroke coming but no one knows when or if they have even decided to release it.

I think the release may be worlds next year? For Yamaha's anyway?

I like them and would buy one, but by the time I finish up my 750, sell it then buy an SXR then do that up I will be very poor. So I am sticking with the 750

I can see this convo leading me to jump the fence because it does stack up against the SXR, 30ish kgs extra for only 7hp over the SJ. My 650 weighs almost the same and thats heavy enough as it is! (have done some research on this site after reading your comments!!)

ok so next question, which SJ? excuse my ignorance, but were there many changes between the black and blue models? I have 2 mates with those skis who barely use them, could spring them with the cash and get either one.

Theres no difference between the original round noses and the 2007 SJ, the 2008 SJ has a new 'race hull' and some other changes. The only difference between round nose SJ are the colors and the graphics :)

1997- 2007 are the same! Just different graphics!

I think the intake on the latest sj has been scolloped forward a fair bit more than on the previous 'round nose' as well as the base of hull appears wider in the front third.

On the SXR issue, they seem to ride easy, but you do notice the extra weight, especially when starting and stopping, they kinda don't float so well.

SXR's are a cool ski, as mentioned not quite as maneuverable as an SJ, but better in the rough and round a course.

I have the hull back now, just waiting on Randy to finish my engine, but he has been at Havasu for the worlds.

the ski will be right around 150-160hp, it's running Dual 48mm Novis, Custom 2mm Billet Stroker Crank, SE super cylinder, which will bring it to 853cc, just trying to decide whether to buy the TBM twin pipes or just go the Factory Dry single, should hopefully be a bit of a weapon, hope to have it all together early November.
