It's like a once off $40 and the Auckland and Waikato areas use the same paper work. All you have to do is fill out a change of ownership papers if you sell your ski. And it give you a little safe guard if it get stolen.

Its another way of controlling the population!!! Thats all they want is the control!!
Its $40 now but in 5 years time it will be $100 and you will have to have a warrant of fitness as well!!

I got my second warning for no reg on Saturday,

I think its BS that we have to reg them as no small boats or any other watercraft HAVE to be registered, but I'm going to get a reg as I would rather $35 for reg than risk $200 for a fine with the amount of riding I do... All you need is to catch one harbour master with PMS and BANG.

Yeah its bullshit how only pwc have to be registered. They cant really say its to help protect us. If our ski is stolen they will be able to identify more easily due to them having hull / engine numbers BS! If this was true then they would make it compulsory throughout NZ.

The upper north island is only a trial area they will look at the rest of the country later at least they haven't baned 2 strokes yet, just pay the one off $40 that will save you $200 in the long run.

yeah, I'm registered, at whanga last summer the harbour master's boy came and told us "$35 for rego now or $200 if you put it in the water"

the rules specify the size of the font, but not the line thickness, so after paint I'm having numbers 100mm high, with 3mm thick letter lines.

It does suck that other boats don't require rego, but it's up to us all to hassle harbourmasters, poilticians etc when we see them. Do they really expect us to believe that there are more injuries per year related to pwc's than 'family' boats? let alone pole ski's! Its nobs who let johnny out on their store serviced sea-doo that create most of the issues that the press love.

We get them made the same colour as the hull. You can't see them from a distance but you see them up close. Seen a few in chrome numbers too - looks cool.

Quit your whinging every one of you!

Annual, that's ANNUAL rego. for your 'ski in New South Wales is over $200 Aussie. Three year licence to ride the thing is at least another $200.
Minimum fine for being unlicenced/unregistered is $400.

    Fancy emigrating here now?

The above fees/fines are from a few years ago as I'm now registered/licensed in another state. They're now higher.

My advice to you lot would be to pay your fees and keep a low profile. It's only a matter of time before your government gets wind of this scam and tries to introduce something similar itself.

but it's so fun to whine!

Whats the story with boats over there?
here boats don't have to be registered I don't think! they just fly on by and all the harbourmaster can do is slap their wrist.

Fees vary from state to state but basically if it's powered and capable of over 10 knots then it must be registered. Most boat rego's run to $50 or less (even in NSW).

You must hold a boat licence. A PWC upgrade is needed to ride a 'ski and attracts an extra fee.

NSW is the worst because the greenies were in the ear of the former Premier and wanted to see us banned 'cos global warming is totally down to me and my stand ups, apparently. Got a letter when they first did this that crapped on about the extra fee being for education, training, enforcement blah, blah, blah. Never saw anything for my $$$ except for extra enforcement.

Other states are nowhere near NSW for fees but have a better relationship with 'ski riders (especially in Victoria).

Guess you now know how good you've got it!?
