TBM flywheel is the way to go bro they are a bit hard on the pocket tho.

Ask Sickboi what mods to do, I hear he did like a 4day seadoo cause that man must be a wealth of knowledge.......

Pro-x piston kits are good, think they are similar to OEM
Get an ADA Head, better than skimming stock one.
Exhaust is fairly important mod but also pricey.
and here's link to CDI mod

and Use a Genuine Yamaha head Gasket if you are putting stock head back on.

Im unsure if an ADA head is better than skimming a stock head. ADA head looks nice and shiny but its bloody expensive and you have to keep replacing the Orings. If you go for the girdled kit you also realease the pressure on the base gasket every time the head comes off. Cant be good for it?

Price vs performance, I think cutting a standerd head would be best? altho im out of the loop for the maching cost.

I didnt get any more top end speed out of changing CDI units from standard to MSD. MSD has a higher rev limit like what your talking about with modding the standard CDI unit. A modded OEM CDI wont rev faster, just higher. My SJ was running out of power before it hit the rev limiter.
Would be interesting to find out what others peoples thoughts on this are.

I rebuilt my SJ 701 a few years ago and used Wisco pistons but also used new sleeves and there holding up fine so far....

X2 on Steves post re ADA head

Depending on your budget i would suggest the following

Get a pipe...B pipe or riva red pipe are good all rounders
Mill your stock head to 165-170psi and ALLWAYS use oem gasket
Lighten your stock flywheel...Take about 180-200 grams off
Rejet carb to suit pipe etc
    Set of reeds
Port cases and cylinder to the mild surf spec porting...I can do this cheap for you if you cant?
Msd is a great upgrade as you get a much stronger spark but not a must if you cant afford.
A good allround prop like a hooker or new solas big hub
    Intake grate and ride plate

    agree with Tofa
    I have all of above
  7. i agree, pro-x pistons are a great alternative to oem, and have oem specs.

mods are important, but if your a rec rider like me, reliability is also a big factor. the more mods, the less reliability, just a fact of life.

you can get a pro tec recreational head, which will bump up compression, give better performance then a cut head, and still uses the oem head gasket. they run about 200.00 u.s. new

pipes are really what is going to make the biggest bang for your buck. though the factory pipe is nice, protec and the old riva pipes make great power as well.

that and a good prop, and you will feel the difference.

lightened oem flywheels also help with that hit.

the modded oem cdi, is great if you just want to up the rev limit a little bit for the pipe, other wise msd enhancer is great, and offer much hotter spark, and a better timing curve for hit, and top end.

if you need any help, feel free to hit me up anytime. i have probably built over 500 of those motors over the years, and have done countless mods.

cheers for all the help guys, have got prox pistons coming and mite get the head skimmed abit what are thoughts on how much to take off??

But ski has got b-pipe already on it,have a prop intake grate and ride plate

Thanks again guys for the help
  9. depending on how far you bore the cylinders, you can cut the head about 30-35 thousands. just be sure you check your squish and compression after you install it.

If the head is stock we take half a mm off and compression ends up around 165-170
