I removed the pump cone and about 100ml of stinky oil went everywhere.

I was expecting it to be full of grease, anyone know why oil is used instead of grease?

    Cheers

yeah ATF fluid and no seals on the bearings ...reduces friction ......for racing 8)

Right, I'm guessing not so good for the surf and salt water. Is it normal to have sealed bearings? The only bearing I can see is the rear bearing at the moment, it isn't sealed.

I was thinking of replacing the bearings with sealed 6205 bearings and filling it with grease in case water got in.

probably fine if you have good seals...its only if the oil leaks out when you'd get a problem.

i think normal is to have unsealed bearings packed with marine grease...but i have seen sealed bearings used in the pump.

I've had some melted grease before, it turns into a really stinky runny shitty oil. Although 100ml is heaps. Atf i would guess
