looking for helmet for waves I'm new to this so if seems like dumb question its not ment to be. Came across these at torpedo 7 are these suitable have included link. seems good price http://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/66HLFN6FC
That looks like a good helmet, one thing to watch out for is cheap china made ones that do not conform to any saftey standards, I had one and it sucked ass. I would say buy it, for that price u cant go wrong
cool thanks for that as I see some of the guys had open face helmets so wasn't sure what was more suited
yea most of us that have the open face ones use the protec 'acewake' helmet ....get them from wake board shops. http://www.pro-tec.net/water/main.html
Depends how much you value your face but i'd go for full face. They are a bit colder and wetter but there are a few cut chins mashed lips and I think one guy even knocked a tooth or two out which that could have been prevented...
Yeah, I had an off road motorcycle helmet - it gets way too waterlogged and heavy, feels like its gonna snap ya neck!! I bought a protec one, its good as its light and has the ear flaps that prevent ear damage - but I should have just bought a full face one from the start so I wouldn't recommend it, I've had some really close calls with the ride plate and need to splash out on a lightweight full face helmet before I do some real damage.
look at down hill mountain bike helmets. they are alot lighter and dont soak up anywhere near the amount off water mx helmets do . i have a new giro remedy that i ride with http://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/GIHLFN8RM
Yeah buy that 661 helmet. I have one similar and its the best helmet iv ever used - comfortable and real light-weight. I'd definately go full face cos it only take one crash to loose your front teeth without one
661 helmet Hi thanks guys bought the 661 thanks for advice will let you all know what its like when it arrives incase someone else needs one
cool one step closer to that surf just round the corner from you . it was pretty good out there today . we were out for about 2 hours and had a blast
Can you post some feedback following your first trial. Be good to know if its worth investing in. thanks
check out the skid lid Melissa got for me while she was in oz, really light and has a removable liner. can't wait to get try it out in the surf.
Just bought a Giro Remedy from Active Kiwi http://activekiwi.co.nz/remedy-p-554.html Figured I'd stick some pics of it up. I'd been to a few bike shops in the weekend and their selection was shit, most of the helmets were pretty basic with lots of metal bits to rust off. One crowd quoted $500 for a similar helmet - this one was $174 inc postage. 1.165 kg, fiberglass, polystyrene, removable liner and plastic latch. This is what I got sent anyway, feels comfortable:
