hey, my bro has left me in charge of getting his sxr800 going, after its been sitting for around 5 years. It was properly winterised with fogging oil etc as per recommendations in the service manual questions: where can i download a workshop manual? he's lost his do you have any tips/advice/common sense which i dont have that you can give me? (apart from throwing it away and getting a superjet..) I'll most definitely have more questions as I go... Thanks
The best way to get any SXR going is out the door via trademe... But if you want to keep it, I would recommend re-building the carbs, then she should start right up after you prime the engine with fuel. Depending on how much fogging oil was used, it may take a few set of plug swaps to get the engine firing... Good luck!
engine start will also help of just done mine but it was only 1.5 years sitting and when i store it i ran it wif more and more 2stroke down the carb. New plugs new fuel and so enginestart in it should go.
sweet, thanks v much everyone.. what are the correct sparkplugs to use? I dont have the old ones, or a workshop manual to tell me. Anyone got a downloadable workshop manual? cheers
just had some other sparkplugs that weren't correct for the kawasaki... same thread and thread length, but hotter and different terminal. They weren't ever run in it - they were just old spares from an old race bike.
Cool, anyway, thanks everyone for your help so far - had it going over the weekend - Carbs were clean upon disassembly and inspection. Gave it some fresh petrol and the freshly charged batt from my superjet and it started straight away! too easy. next question though needs a new battery and my one is too big to fit properly in its cavity... can someone with an SXR tell me the model number of your batt so i can get one too? Thanks second my brother wants to get it serviced/checked by a shop so that he's comfortable selling it on, knowing he did what he could to make sure it was all gravy for the next owner... Where would you recommend, that will be good, but that wont rip me off since I don't know them? CHEERS VERY MUCH GUYS
Yo go hit up ski MD man they will be able to sort you out. Danger just got one of their batteries last week they are designed to fit every model of ski and the best part is they come with a 2 year warrenty.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 609555.htm these are cheap, and so far good. i know of several in skis and none have had issues. the ski will crank a shitload faster than with the traditional style battery, and doesnt go magicly flat either
