    Location

We have area of beach and surf closed off for the duration of the event. This is to ensure safety for organisers, competitors, and the general public. Approximately 100 - to 150m wide section is closed and stretches from the beach out to the rear of the surf break (approx. 200m). This allocated area allows for the allocation of a pit area for skis and fuel, and also an area for pop-up tents. Inside the event area you will be required to adhere to any of the rules and regulations that the event is required to run under and enforce. These are detailed below. Outside of the allocated area you must adhere to all local council regulations and maritime when when riding. There will also be a access way past our our site for the general public to access the remainder of the beach. Please do not block this.

Please remember that your conduct will directly reflect and impact on any future events.

    Format

The format of the event is very simple. All riders are split into groups, or sessions, of smaller numbers - this will be a maximum of 10. Throughout the day each group of riders is allocated a session time of approximately 15-20mins in the schedule for the day. The first group is sent out for their allocated time slot and, when signalled to finish, the following group goes out and so on and so forth. The schedule will repeat itself 3-4 times per day giving each competitor sufficient riding time to express themselves in the freeride sense. Please don't worry - whilst 15-20 mins doesn't sound like a lot of time, when you're amping to ride and show off your skill you'll find that your tired by the end of it.

During Saturdays proceedings there will be specific breaks in the schedule to hold the feature sections of the event. These feature classes are an elective option for competitors to enter and have specific requirements. Examples include “Biggest Air” - somewhat self-explanatory, “Sickest Trick” - best and most complicated trick, and the “Cherry-Popper” - first attempt at a back flip. Both Biggest Air and Sickest Trick will be offered for Stand-Up and Blaster separately.

Important Points that you must plan for:

    Food / Beverages

The grocery shopping at the Port is limited at best. Your options are either Tuakau or Pukekohe. Pukekohe will have the most range for supermarkets and bottle stores however it is another 5-7 mins on from Tuakau. Tuakau is 25mins from the Port Waikato settlement. We suggest you stock up on your requirements for breakfast and dinner before coming out. For lunch we can suggest the following:

    - There is a cafe across the road from the surf club. They sell the usual cafe style meals, coffees etc etc. They will have EFTPOS.
    - We will have a food trailer on the beach. They do some very nice fast food. Everything from Hamburgers, chips, bacon and egg rolls etc etc. They will also have cans of coke, water etc. They do not have EFTPOS at this stage. Bring cash.
    - The club will put a gold coin donation sausage sizzle on at each lunch time. Bread, sausages, tomato sauce. Easy.

    Fuel

There is limited supply of fuel for skis at the Port. Unless you're running on 91 we suggest you stock up in Pukekohe or Tuakau on your way out. The Port Waikato wharf store has a 91 pump. Pukekohe is the closet supply of 98 and Tuakau for 95 Octane. We would envisage that a tank of fuel a day will be plenty unless sharing skis etc.

    Alcohol

Yes - the rumours are correct. There is a complete council liquor ban in Port Waikato. This includes the beach, surf club car park, and any public area. We are required by the council to inform you of this. What you choose to do with this information is up to you. You have been warned.

The event itself and the area allocated is an alcohol free zone. Any competitor found consuming alcohol will not be riding for the rest of that day. Flagrant disregard and repeat offenders will be asked to leave. We understand that a little bit of "courage in a can" is helpful to some, but put simply, by drinking at a sanctioned event puts the public liability cover we have in jeopardy.

Please also insure that you don't turn up to the event and expect to ride in an unfit state from partying the previous night. We will stand you down from riding until you have sobered up.

    Your Ski and Scrutineering

Please make sure that you have checked over you ski for anything obvious that will cause a safety issue. We will not allow someone to head out into the west coast surf if they are going to put themselves in danger. You must have the following:

    - Front tow loop (small piece of rope looped and tied through the bow eye of your ski)
    - Rear tow loop (as above but through the rear bow eye. If you do not have a rear bow eye we suggest looping through the rear mount of your pump - opposite side to your steering cable).
    - Helmet and Life Vest
    - Cable ties on all fuel lines
    - Securely mounted battery. Std straps etc are fine.
    - Ensure you have checked for broken engine mounts

    Timetable & Parking

We plan to start as early as possible on the Friday as we are very limited with the tides - there is no beach left at high tide. So please ensure that you make an effort to be there on time. We have a tractor on site. You will be required to park your car in the surf club car park. A tractor will be there to tow your trailer, ski, and gear onto the beach. You will unload your ski(s) in the designated area and then we will park your trailer in an area to the side for easy access later. You can keep your car in the car park but please bear in mind that it is first come first served with the car park.

    The schedule is as follows:

    Friday:

8:00 - 9:00am - Sign-in & Registration. During this time we will tractor your ski onto the beach and scrutineering will be performed.
9:15am - Riders Briefing - COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE. If you fail to attend you cannot ride.
    9:30am - 1st Sessions begin

    3:00pm - Pack-up begins
3:30pm - Last Session finishes for the day
4:00pm - Everything off the beach

    Saturday:

7:30 - 8:15am - Tractor begins ferrying those ready onto the beach
    8:20am - Brief Riders Briefing
8:30am - First sessions begin for the day
2:00-4:00pm - Special Events will run between the scheduled sessions
    4:00pm - Pack-up and off the beach

There will be a small after function at a TBA location to give away some prizes etc after the event. We will advise at riders briefing on the venue location.
