Hey guys, I'm new to the freeride scene and am keen to meet up with some local guys (Christchurch) to start going ridn with out at the Waimak bar/mouth or wherever, I have a '96 blaster 1 twin carb and I've just finished my '07 Superjet project build but have barely put an hour on the motor as it needs a few little things sorted out just in the way of tuning (runs a little hot, has dual cooling though) and water sealing is an issue seems to get a fair bit of water in still but am running dual Rule 500's, Just after a bit of know how to help me get this thing on on the water! flick me a PM or just a txt 027 37 88 153 I don't have reception all the time but will reply asap! Looking forward to getting right into it!

Very nice, might pay to check your cooling lines to make sure you don't have a split in one of them

Hey timmy, thanks very much for your reply, yea i would def be keen but ive got a race meeting on this weekend down south so am tied up, def gimmie a yell in the near future tho, ive gotta sort my skis gremlins out in the cooling side of things, its weird ive checked all the lines right through running it up with water going through it and theres no leaks, under load water comes out of both outlets but its really hot, i think the pipes getting too hot its a limited factory b pipe and ive followed the guidelines for water routing as per the wamiltons setup on their website, is there any rough guide on the 3 water screws on the header pipe?

    Here you go http://www.factorypipe.com/t_instructions.php

Also you will be want to put the old plastic intake back on. Ive tryed aftermarket filters but there no good in the surf. Water keeps going down the carbs. Im sure you will soon find out tho!

    Ski looks good dude

Thanks heaps for that, ill hav a play with it. Id hate to think how many hours ive put into it over winter esp with all the glasswork inside it, im reas happy with how it turned out but would do a few things differently next time. Yea i took the filters off after the first flat lake test, they look good but thats about it! its back to standard now, that pic was just taken before id finished it hence why the primer lines hanging out theres lines going everywhere with no turf on the front panel, just cant wait to get the thing out in the surf! But id end up needing a tow back in with how it is, will get it all sussed asap theres just not enough time in the day!

    for the heat:
what compression domes you running? , could be getting hot if your gone for a really high comp....
Are your water lines routed correctly? you seem to have one going of the head to somewhere over by the battery???

    For keeping water out:
make sure hood is down tight, if youve got stock hood hooks you can bend them down to make the hood tighter. Also are you running the breather hoses on the hood?

Its running 185psi and 35cc domes, the water fitting on the top goes to the water outlet iv got in front of the battery which is what it was listed on wamiltons dual cooling diagram but im not convinced ive got it 100% right, ive run it for 15 mins in one go on a lake without any real issues but to me it just seemed to be too hot, there was steam coming out of the left water outlet and the chamber was hot as hell but if it was goin to seize or melt the rubber coupling going from the chamber to the waterbox if wouldve done it by now tho, yea i still hav the rubber breathers and ones right in the way of the pipe? What do u do with the breathers? Yes still hav standard hood hooks they seem pretty flimsy ill hav to get some stronger A/M ones or try bend the oem one down for now.

My waterlines are routed exactly the same as this https://www.wamiltons.com/pdfs/WamMod.jpg i had a flow control valve in where it said by the chamber but the hose past it in between the stinger fitting going into the pipe and the fcv got hot and went really black (normally blue) and yes i had it pointing the right way, so ive taken it out and run a line straight through without a fcv, it gets hot with or without it, i may just be over paranoid but steams a fair bit after u ride it and then stop plus water that comes out of the left iutlet is almost too hot to touch, i just dont wana do any damage before i get to try it out. Thanks for all the help and advice so far.

I wondered where that ski ended up. Looking good now bud!

yeah thats pretty normal compression, yeah I see now, you have a outlet of the right side too, haven't seen one put there before..

I would run the breather hoses...keeps water out when your ski is upside down, you may need to trim one to clear the pipe,

Are you getting good flow coming out of the outlets when you are running?, was it steam or exhaust fumes coming out?

yeah the first bit of hose off the stinger always goes black, the exhaust fumes stain it.

if the chamber is getting really hot, but the water tuning screws in the header pipe are sufficiently screwed out it may be blocked, you can check the holes for blockages...take the screws out or and shud be able to push a 1.5mm drill bit thru, or a paperclip wire or something

Ok Ill trim the bow end one to clear the pipe. Would need a fair chunk off, was a mission getting the pipe in, it hit the side of the hull but have made allowances for that although it seems to rattle and vibrate its way down to where it taps against the stator cover so i may need to put a small dent in it to stop it from wearn thru.
There seems to be good flow out of the r/h side outlet which comes straight off the head but the one on the left side only gets a stream of water when u nail it, the fcv didnt seem to allow much water through under power, so i took it off for now, theres not a hell of a lot of water flow coming out of either outlet at idle which is somewhat norm id guess.

It smokes and is real raspy in noise out of the left outlet off the chamber when u first start it up until it gets water into the system which is normal but as i ride it the water gets hotter and hotter until its almost too hot to touch while steaming at the same time, when i stopped it after about a 10 min run it hissd steam out that same outlet like it was under pressure like a jug or something weird, im goin to have to pull the header pipe off to check if the screws are all free.

I assume the LH water outlet comes off the header pipe, im guessing you may have a blockage inside the header pipe, the water jacket in them can get clogged with shells etc, even brand new ones can be full of machining swarf..

If you have it off, hook it to your garden hose and check the flow thru it

I'm hoping to get my ski sorted out this wknd so will (should) be good to go afterwards to finally go get some hours under my belt in the surf, I heard about the freeride event up north in April too if there's any plans of a road trip with the South island guys or squeezn skis in something in bulk im keen to get involved and get amongst it. Can't ride to save myself yet though, real keen to learn!

Don't worry about how good you are, this event is about everything BUT how good people are.

Aquanob sumed it up well! The most important people at this event are the new to jet skiing people so jet skiing is the winner. I'm sure the dunedin OPW crew are making the trip if you contact them early you might be able to book a seat on the bus(probably the drivers seat coz they will drinking that angry hippy juice and getting naked)
