| Decent sized surf can be had where the river meets the sea and all along the adjacent beach. Access can be gained from 2 main areas. Be careful to stay out of the way of the fishermen who stand along the river mouth as a lot of them have a personal hate for Jetskiers:
Kaiapoi Boat Ramp: If coming from Christchurch drive down the main road in Kaiapoi and shortly after the bridge that crosses the Kaiapoi River there is a signpost on the right marking the BMX track. Follow this sign and you will come to the boat ramp (just over the big hill). Put in at the boat ramp and go down the river (slowly as canoers and fishermen line the bank) until you come to the Waimak where you want to hang a left. Watch out for the sand bar where the rivers meet at low tide (and the fishermen). Cruise straight down the Waimak until you reach the surf.
Brooklands Lagoon Ramp (High Tide): When driving down Marshlands rd follow the signposts to Brooklands. At the end of Kaianga rd there is a boat ramp that is suitable for use at higher levels. |
